The Piano Collection: A Flower Remembered

Announcing John’s first ever solo piano album, The Piano Collection: A Flower Remembered. As a response to the period of worldwide coronavirus lockdown, John was inspired to revisit eight of his best-loved choral pieces, arranging them for solo piano so that they could be played and sung at home. Appropriately, the album was recorded during the pandemic in a Maltese studio by John’s longtime friend and collaborator, Wayne Marshall, and produced at a distance by John in the UK.

The full album will be released on Decca Records on Friday 31st July 2020, and will be available across all digital platforms.

The companion volume of digital sheet music is available now from digital music retailers, including JW Pepper, Chimes Music and Sheet Music Plus. The arrangements are designed for pianists everywhere, and texts are included within the piano score for home sing-alongs.

From today you can stream The Lord bless you and keep you across all digital platforms. The full tracklist is as follows:

1. A Flower Remembered
2. A Clare Benediction
3. For the Beauty of the Earth
4. Be Thou My Vision
5. Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace
6. A Gaelic Blessing
7. All Things Bright and Beautiful
8. The Lord Bless You and Keep You

    Dear John Rutter

I would very much love to download the track released now, but it seems I can’t since I’m using the Danish iTunes store. I hope that the full record will be released in Denmark come 31st July.

    Sincerely,
    Benedikte

Today’s track is for pre-release streaming only, not yet for download.

This is great news! I’ve tried to reserve a copy of the piano score through OUP but it is not available. How can I insure I can reserve my copies? It referred me to Edition Peters for the piano score but that site did not list it. Please help me reserve 2 copies of the piano score. Thank you!

    • Team JR

The printed scores will be available as soon as possible, once the printers restart after being locked down. Digital copies will be available from 9th July from digital retailers.

  3. Ann Gerhart

I’d love a paper copy. But I can print from the digital?

    • Team JR

You can’t print from the digital copy, but there will be printed copies available soon – they’ve been delayed due to the coronavirus lockdown.

I play the piano for Sunday services and would love to have some of your lovely music to play. I have always been a fan of your music and sang with you at Carnegie Hall in New York performing the Requiem and Magnificat. What a thrill. I have also sung lots of your music in my vocal quartet.

I’m looking forward to buying the piano book very much.

I tried to listen to The Lord Bless You and Keep You using the Amazon Music option which I already use on my laptop but it wouldn’t let me unless I signed up to a 30 day free trial of Amazon Music Unlimited. £7.99 per month for Prime members (Non-Prime member pricing of £9.99 per month).

How frustrating for you! I’m afraid we have no control over the policies of streaming services, but you could try using one which has a non-subscription option, such as Spotify.

At age 74, I’ve reached the stage when I’m thinking of getting rid of some of my beloved piano solo books, rather than purchasing more, but THIS I will buy!

Thank you so much! Have loved all your music since the very first time I heard your No Sweeter Music many years ago ! Since then have gotten every CD you have released but always wished for piano transcriptions of your compositions, though I do have several of your chorale arrangements for the piano accompaniment. Can’t wait until this new collection is available.

How about the actual printed music, for lovers of your music who want to play it on the piano??

    • Team JR

The piano music will be available in digital form on 9th July. A printed volume is also scheduled for release on 9th July, but that is an estimate, and depends on how quickly the printers are able to get back to work after the coronavirus lockdown.

Good news for those of you waiting for the companion John Rutter Piano Album sheet music! The digital album has been released early – to purchase see the links in the text above. The printed music is on track for release on 9th July.

Is it suitable for easy piano. I’m teachingmyself to play – grade 2 at the moment

    • Team JR

Probably more intermediate (grades 4-6?) than very easy – but why not give yourself a challenge? Nothing in 6 flats!

Where can I get a copy of the piano scores please
