Celebrating with John Rutter – Windsor Festival

Sunday, 25 September 2022
19:30 - 21: 30

This event has been postponed until a later date

Conducted by John Rutter himself, this performance with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates two of his pieces with works by another great British composer Vaughan Williams.

Both composers have looked to the earlier British greats for tonight’s works. Vaughan Williams’s haunting Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis takes inspiration from Tudor polyphony, whereas Rutter’s Mass of the Children was written in response to a desire to compose a work that would bring children and adults together, in the same way that performances of Britten’s War Requiem had done for him when a school chorister.

Written in 1938, Serenade to Music was also composed with a great of the British classical music scene in mind: Henry Wood. Vaughan Williams composed it for Wood’s ‘jubilee’ concert to mark the 50th Anniversary of Wood’s first concert.

John Rutter’s major work Visions completes the programme. Written in 2016 it is based on the theme of Jerusalem, the Holy City of prophetic imaginations.
