This album explores the secular works by Rutter: Fancies is an Elizabethan poetry cycle; When Icicles Hang sets texts by Shakespeare and Campion; the Five Childhood Lyrics set a group of simple rhymes in a spirit of fun and fairytale; and the six-movement Suite Antique for flute, harpsichord and strings ranges from simple, classic ‘aria’ to upbeat ‘jazz waltz’.

Mass of the Children
Mass of the Children was written to bring children’s and adults’ choirs together, in the way that performing in Britten’s War Requiem did for the young John Rutter as a school chorister. The five-movement work has become popular with choirs the world over. Eight anthems and motets complete the album.
